Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair Single Malt Scotch Whisky｜ Other Products

Bunnahabhain (pronounced boo-na-hav-en, Gaelic for "foot of the river") is Islay's outlier — while its neighbors built reputations on peat, this distillery, founded in 1881 on the island's remote northeastern coast, is known for unpeated, sherried, maritime whisky. It was accessible only by boat until 1960, which is exactly what Stiùireadair honors: the name means "helmsman" in Scots Gaelic, a nod to the figure on the brand's logo and the sailors who once carried every barrel to the mainland. This no-age-statement expression is the entry point to the core range, matured in a marriage of first-fill and refill ex-sherry casks, bottled at 46.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural color. Expect deep golden color with fudge, toffee, almond, walnut, and green apple on the nose, alongside a late milk chocolate and brine note that reads as salted caramel. The palate turns malty and bittersweet before the sweetness arrives — dried fruit, creamy caramel, sea salt, and gentle spice — finishing long with lingering dried fruit. Most reviewers rate it excellent value, though one independent critic found sulphur-treated cask character and preferred the 12 Year. Great sherried introduction to unpeated Islay.
