Chinaco Reposado is Tamaulipas tequila rested up to a year in oak — Difford's found chargrilled peppers and buttery roasted sweetcorn, with vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and liquorice. Chinaco is the only tequila made in Tamaulipas: after Hurricane Beulah flattened the region in 1965, Guillermo González Díaz Lombardo got his neighbors to plant agave on a Jalisco distiller's promise, the distiller reneged, and González built Tequilera La Gonzaleña himself, fighting until 1977 to get eleven Tamaulipas municipalities into the tequila denomination. He named it for the Chinacos, the landowner-warriors led by his great-grandfather General Manuel González, later President of Mexico; his four sons run it today at NOM 1127, and Chinaco was the first ultra-premium tequila sold in the US, in 1983. The Reposado is 100% blue Weber agave grown mostly in Tamaulipas — mineral soil near the Gulf, farms up to 5,000 feet — aged around nine months in oak and bottled at 40% ABV, pale straw, in the artisan decanter. Difford's: chargrilled vegetables and peppers, lightly buttery roasted sweetcorn, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and liquorice, with a lightly spicy, vegetal finish. Honest note: the Blanco's savory, briny, herbal Tamaulipas character is still here under the oak — this is a reposado of terroir, not of sweetness, for the drinker who wants to taste where it's from. Neat, or in an Old Fashioned with a savory edge. Tamaulipas, rested.Buy Chinaco Reposado Tequila online with fast shipping right to your door.
